Tonight Bada Haridas and myself are leaving India for Europe. After a few days we’ll travel to South Africa for the Durban Ratha Yatra, and then onto Russia and Ukraine for a 3-week preaching tour. Time to share the fruits of our pilgrimages to India’s holy places with others!

“Out of Lord Caitanya’s spontaneous compassion, He restored the people back to consciousness and through the means of His holy names enabled them to pass beyond the impassable ocean of the age of quarrel. Thus by the golden moons of Lord Hari and the Vaisnavas the news of the names of Krsna was told from person to person.” [ Srila Sarvabhauma Bhattacarya, Susloka-Satakam, verse 46 ]

“From the time that the name of Hari became manifest on the earth, Vaisnava folk were see everywhere, adorned with faultless tiloka, neckbeads and equipped with the maha-mantra. In the midst of Kali Yuga they purified the atmosphere chanting, ‘Hari! Hari!’ So indeed it came to pass.”

“In the middle of a tiny universe, Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu sewed together a garland of the names ‘Hare, Krsna and Rama,’ which bestow pure devotional service.” [ Srila Sarvabhauma Bhattacarya, Susloka-satakam, verse 79 ]

Indradyumna Swami is in Warsaw and has been afflicted with cough and fever for around a week.

Today he went to the hospital and was diagnosed as having pneumonia. The doctors have put him on an anti-biotic regime and advised that he have full bed rest. Consequently he will not be traveling to South Africa for the Rathayatra. He has been transferred to a hospital in Warsaw this evening.

So that he can rest he has asked that the devotees not to begin making calls to him .. but has requested your prayers for his quick recovery.

Dear devotees, friends and well-wishers,

Doctors making further tests on my condition have determined that I don’t have Pneumonia, but rather Acute Bronchitis. They will continue to monitor the situation and administer antibiotics. If things go as planned, I could be released from the hospital in 3 days. Thank you everyone for your concern and prayers. I hope to return to the preaching field soon.

Today the doctors are releasing me from the hospital. They said with confidence that I can start traveling again in 5 days. That coincides with my planned trip to Azerbaijan, Russia and Ukraine. Though extremely difficult, my time spent in the hospital was a valuable asset. It forced upon me once again the spirit of renunciation and gave me the opportunity to call out for the shelter of my spiritual master in moments of despair. Now I must reciprocate with his mercy and preach his glories all over the world. Srila Prabhupada, may I remember your lotus feet at all times; both in happiness and distress! “I shall remember while the light lasts. And in the darkness I shall not forget.” [ Anonymous ]

This weekend myself and Bada Haridas prabhu will continue with our travels. Our first destination is Moscow. While studying the itinerary I realised that 22 years ago, in the summer of 1992, I was doing samkirtan in Moscow with my godbrothers. Srila Prabhupada, may we continue to serve your orders until our dying breath!

“Seeing the fallen sinners, Lord Nityananda casts His glance of mercy upon them. He fills all the worlds with the shoreless ocean of His mercy. He chases away all sins. He breaks into pieces the fear of repeated birth and death. Glorious is His descent into this world!” [ Rama das, an associate of Mahaprabhu, Jaya Nityananda Candra, text 2 ]

My dear disciples and friends in Russia, Ukraine and Azerbaijan,

Please accept my blessings. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

It is with great sadness that I must inform you that I am obliged to cancel my upcoming trip to your countries. As many of you know, I was recently in the hospital in Warsaw, Poland with Acute Bronchitis. After 6 days the doctors released me. Unfortunately, some complications have arisen; namely heavy coughing from congested bronchial tubes. My immune system is also very weak. As a result, my health is quite fragile and the doctors have strongly advised me not to travel. I would not be able to recuperate properly while doing so. I would also leave myself open to other infections.

My plan is now to go immediately to South Africa. In Durban the weather is very warm and there are a number of excellent doctors who can treat me. Bada Haridas prabhu will accompany me. We will spend just under 3 weeks there.

One good news is that we will be back in time to participate in my Vyasa Puja celebrations in St. Petersburg from May 15-17. The doctors are confident I will be ready to travel by then.

I want express how sorry I am for not being able to come to most of the places we had planned. I know how hard you have all worked to make arrangements for nice programs. I was so much looking forward to seeing all of you again! My prayer is that you’ll understand my health must come first. I want to be around for many more years, guiding and inspiring you in your devotional services.

If any of you would like to write to me, please feel free to do so. It will help to mitigate the feelings of separation we will all be feeling.

I am always and forever,

Your well-wisher,
Indradyumna Swami

Yesterday my godbrother, Yadubara prabhu, sent me a most precious gift: a photo of Srila Prabhupada with myself and several other devotees accompanying His Divine Grace on a morning walk in the early 1970’s. My dear spiritual master! Memories of you give me strength to continue my services with the hope that one day I’ll be privileged to walk by your side again.
